Should You Use Epoxy Around Your Pool? What Indianapolis Homeowners Need to Know about Epoxy Around Pool Areas
If you’re thinking about upgrading your pool deck (maybe even epoxy around pool), one of the most common questions we get is:
“Can I use epoxy around my pool?”
At Iron Eagle Coatings Coatings, we specialize in pool deck resurfacing and concrete coatings across Indianapolis and surrounding suburbs—including Greenwood, Carmel, Fishers, Zionsville and Avon. And while epoxy has been used around pools in the past, there’s something better for Indy weather than epoxy around pool: polyaspartic coatings.
Epoxy can work—but why polyaspartic is what we recommend for pool decks across Indiana.
🧊 1. Indiana Weather Is Tough on Epoxy
Here in Indianapolis, we deal with freezing winters, hot summers, humidity, and everything in between.
Epoxy coatings are rigid and slow-curing, which means they can:
- Crack during freeze-thaw cycles
- Yellow from UV exposure
- Become slick when wet
So while epoxy looks great indoors, it doesn’t always hold up outdoors—especially around a wet, sun-exposed pool deck.
💪 Polyaspartic > Epoxy for Pool Decks in Indianapolis
Polyaspartic coatings are the next generation of epoxy, and they outperform traditional systems in almost every category—especially for exterior surfaces like pool decks. Here’s why you want polyaspartic coatings instead of epoxy around pool.
Benefits of polyaspartic pool deck coatings:
- UV stable: Won’t fade or yellow in the sun
- Slip-resistant: Add custom texture for safety
- Fast curing: Installed in just 1 day (may take a little longer depending on the size of your deck size)
- Flexible: Resists cracking during winter
- Non-porous: Keeps out water, chlorine, and salt
That’s why Iron Eagle Coatings Coatings only uses polyaspartic systems for outdoor projects. They’re simply better for Indiana’s climate and safer for your family than epoxy around pool deck.
